UK and China Stem Cell Research funds come to Bradford

MRC NSFC grant (£500K) awarded to Prof Vladimir Botchkarev and Prof. Guoliang Xu (Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences)

After receiving funding for one of 12 pilot stage projects in 2012 Prof Vladimir Botchkarev and Dr Mike Fessing participated in a very successful NSFC MRC Stem Cell Research Workshop held in Shanghai in Oct 2013. Submission of an ambitious full grant proposal in 2014 was rewarded when the MRC awarded Botchkarev/Fessing's proposal as first out of only 5 joint funding awards in this call. This proposal aims to further advance the knowledge gaps in stem cell research and study the role of TET genes in the control of stem cell activity during skin regeneration and wound healing. The award is part of the prestigious Newton UK-China Research and Innovation Partnership Fund which promotes economic development through research and innovation.

Co collaborators at Bradford include Dr Mike Fessing, Dr Yong Hong Peng and Dr Krzysztof Poterlowicz, while collaborator in China is Prof. Guoliang Xu (Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Science).

This continues Bradford's strong reputation in building excellent UK-China Research and business relationships and the project will continue to develop a fruitful partnership betweet the University and the Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences.
