Dr Louise Comerford-Boyes

PositionLecturer in Psychology

Teaching and Supervisory Responsibilities

Senior Lecturer within the Division of Psychology, and Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling. My teaching specialisms are the philosophy of social science and qualitative research methodologies.

Research Areas

My research activity and scholarly outputs focus on:

Creativity: the psychology of the creative process; creative identity, the relationship between creativity/the arts and the development of emotional wellbeing and social capital, and the role of creative agency and agents in making change happen.

The individual within organisational and/or community settings, including identities and experiences in communities, places of work and/or study, particularly: ‘undergoing change’ experiences; inequality and power; multi-sector partnership work and professional territory.

HE Policy and Practice research: understanding ‘the student experience’, the role of pedagogic/andragogic research in the university sector; the contribution of institutional research to understanding large scale organisational change projects.

Methodologically, I am interested in looking at the balance of power between the researcher and the researched, and the potential of emancipatory approaches (action research, participative enquiry etc).  I am also interested in language-based theories and methods of analysis (e.g. Foucauldian Discourse Analysis, social representation theory etc.
