  • PhD in Archaeology for a thesis on Beaker domestic ceramics (University of Leicester)
  • 1984 – post- doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam (Diatom analysis of prehistoric ceramics)

Professional History

Taught Prehistory at the University of Leicester before joining the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust as Project Officer and later head of contracts section.

Joined English Heritage’s Centre for Archaeology in 1998 as Archaeologist responsible for Prehistory.

Joined the University of Bradford in 2001.

Research Areas

Current research includes Neolithic and Bronze Age ceramics and the technology of prehistoric ceramics.

Neolithic and Bronze Age Settlement.

Burial and Ritual in the 4th – 2nd Millennia BC.

Currently investigating the henge monuments and Neolithic settlement patterns in the Yorkshire Dales.
