In this level 7 module you will gain an advanced knowledge and understanding of transnational processes and their challenges for international governance and control - that is, of processes that intrinsically cut across state boundaries but where the drivers of these processes are not directly controlled by states. These processes include: transnational trafficking and crime (such as trafficking of arms, people or drugs); and global or regional environmental problems such as ozone depletion, climate change, unsustainable exploitation of global environmental resources, and air and sea pollution; or governance of international resources. You will develop understanding of key concepts, theories and approaches to understanding such transnational processes and problems, and also for understanding and analysing the development, implementation and effectiveness of international responses to such challenges. Then the module proceeds to examine in detail selected major contemporary transnational issues and challenges relating to environment, trafficking and crime, in terms of their causes and dynamics but also critically examining the relevant international responses to enhance governance and control.
