The module aims to introduce you to peacebuilding processes in areas affected by conflict, approaches to analysing these processes, and the relationship between conflict, peacebuilding and security. Drawing on case studies from across the world, the module examines the approaches, challenges and debates relating to peacebuilding, with a particular focus on the period since the early 1990s until the present day.The module aims to develop your understanding of the different approaches to peacebuilding and the debates and critiques of peacebuilding (such as liberal peacebuilding and the local turn). Through case studies, you will examine and explore how peacebuilding is carried out by practitioners in the field, gaining familiarity with common techniques for promoting peace in conflict-affected settings.
