Applied Genetics

Module code: BIS6027-A

Diagnostic testing laboratories within the NHS operate a critical 247 service 365 days a year. This service is vital to provide information to frontline medical staff who need a fast and accurate diagnosis. As a result, Healthcare Science staff working on a rota may be the sole expert in their area for that shift. Therefore, it is important that Healthcare Scientists are able to work independently and evaluate data to make informed decisions. This module supports the Healthcare Science programme by developing learnerĂ understanding of diagnostic procedures in Healthcare Science (PLO12) through study of the application of a range of specialised methods and techniques, and their importance in the clinical investigation of patients. This module also enhances deep understanding of a specialist area of genetics and develops skills in critical analysis and report presentation (the dissertation). These skills are key for life-long learning in the Healthcare Science discipline. Download the PDF for BIS6027-A_2025_6.pdf
