Module Aims

This module aims to develop your awareness of the main areas of social change in Britain since 1945, so that you have a coherent understanding of the origins of contemporary social issues in the United Kingdom and how these have evolved over time. It provides you with a historical perspective on how the key areas of social division and stratification in sociology – ethnicity, gender and social class – have developed in relation to various social changes that have influenced the contemporary social world; factors such as affluence, technological change and the welfare state.
