Module Aims

To provide a deeper understanding of politics and security in a key region of the globe, Africa To critically engage with debates concerning the various histories, concepts, theories, themes and processes on the continent south of the Sahara.

To gain a multi-layered understanding of the formation of the state, state-society relations and the security architecture across Africa.

To understand the interaction of African states and African regional bodies with the outside world and critically engage with debates over the role of outsiders, such as Europe, China and India, on the continent.

To stimulate and provide space for the articulation and writing of complex ideas and theories related to the region, including an understanding of one's own position and values.
