This module explores the ways in which screen realism can be understood and put into practice. It develops a mastery of modes of realist practice and advanced skills in the interpretation of its impact on historical, social and political representations.
Theories of screen realism; realist film and television practice; modes of realism - documentary, poetic, magical; historical development of screen realism.
Lectures, independent viewing, screenings, directed reading facilitated via VLE and tutor-led group discussions are included in the teaching strategy.
Learning outcomes are assessed via a presentation and essay.
