Collaborative Practice in Mental Health

Module Aims

The module aims to identify and examine the nature of collaboration and partnership working in mental health practice, recognising the central importance of working collaboratively with service users and their families and carers.  Additionally interprofessional and multi-agency working will be considered including the challenges and opportunities that these can present in assessment, planning and the delivery of care.

Outline Syllabus

Models of partnership and collaboration; power and empowerment; effective communication and engagement; service user and carer involvement; the role of professionals and agencies including psychiatry, mental health nursing, psychology, police; advocacy; carers' groups; assessment and care planning including the Care Programme Approach and alternatives to compulsory admission.
