Module Aims

To enable you to reflect critically on your social work practice in preparation for and during your first placement and to prepare and present items which will demonstrate understanding of your developing professional competence, including the integration of relevant knowledge and theoretical perspectives and understand the role of values within your practice.

Outline Syllabus

Reflective practice; intermediate level communication skills; models and methods of assessment; risk assessment; values and ethics characteristics of practice within a range of organisational settings including group care, within statutory voluntary and private sectors; the integration of theoretical perspectives within the implementation of effective social work; the relationship between justice, care and control in social welfare and the practical and ethical implications of these; discussion of social work values and key roles in respect of work undertaken on placement.
