Module Aims

To enable you to critically examine, analyse and evaluate legal issues with reference to social work practice.

Outline Syllabus

Students will begin with an overview of the English Legal System, followed by a supervised court visit.

The law relating to children as individuals; the duties of the local authority; adoption law and practice; leaving care.

The impact of the ECHR and the Human Rights Act 1998 will be covered.

The law relating to adults, with particular reference to vulnerable adults, mental health and disability.

The law in relation to housing, including homelessness, immigration and judicial review.

Criminal Justice and Youth Offending.
