Module Aims

To analyse critically the theory and practice of mental health legislation, related codes of practice and national guidance including related case law; to analyse critically the theory and policies related to the AMHP role; to analyse critically national and local policies, guidance and procedures relating to statutory mental health functions; to apply legislation and policy to AMHP practice.

Outline Syllabus

Mental health law; The role and responsibilities of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP); Human Rights and Equality legislation and the role of the AMHP; Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty legislation; Children's legislation; Inter-professional practice; roles and responsibilities of other professionals involved in statutory mental health work.
