Introduction to Social Work

Module Aims

To introduce you to the social and historical context of social work practice; to consolidate social work knowledge and skills acquired in other Stage one modules;  to provide beginning skills in the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Proficiency, and the College of Social Work Professional Capability framework in terms of preparing students for their first placement experience.

Outline Syllabus

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC); the social and historical context of social work; contemporary issues and practice in work within childcare, mental health, disability, work with older people; local and national resource and services; statutory codes, frameworks and guidance, assessment planning, intervention and evaluation; recording, administrative and IT skills; reflective practice and the role of supervision and decision making frameworks.
