Module Aims

1. To offer you a critical understanding of gender roles and positions in relation to offending behaviour.
2. To introduce feminism as a social movement, offering you a critical account of different feminist perspectives including radical or liberal feminism and inter-sectionality.
3. To support you in developing an overview of the development of feminist contributions to criminology.
4. You will trace the development of post 1945 policy initiatives encouraging gender equality, including criminal justice initiatives  and human rights questions.

Outline Syllabus

Understanding 'sex' and gender: Implications of gender for crime and criminals: Human rights examples: Development of feminism as a social movement: Initiatives for equality: Feminist criminology: Mad/bad/sad debates: Current issues (The syllabus will reflect current debates and may foreground different areas in different years).
