Module Aims

The aim of this module is to explore in depth factors that impact on women's health, and how as professional outcomes can be improved. Theoretical concepts of women and health will be examined alongside specific health needs of women from Menarche to Menopause. Students will explore life and health experiences impact on women's well-being and how multi-professional teams can improve outcomes, in the context of social and ethical theories.

Outline Syllabus  

History of women's experience of health care .Theoretical constructs about women's roles in a multi-cultural societies. The realities of daily living i.e. impact of nutrition, domestic violence on health and the relationship of women to and with medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. Ethics iatrogenisis and deontology
Case management (this is a list of examples, but the specifics will be chosen by the group at the start of the module to reflect their workplace.: Management and treatment of the Pre and post-menopausal bleeding, gynaecological cancers.  Managing the complex pregnancy or birth. Post-delivery consequences; Biomechanics, Symphasis Diastasis, Continence, Pelvic Prolapse and Uro-dynamics.. Identify clinical treatments to rectify the problems or develop strategies for coping. Essay preparation and presentation skills
