Module Aims

To enable practitioners to develop the requisite skills and theoretical knowledge to undertake cervical screening competently. To audit personal practice in line with the national requirements for cervical screening. To examine and apply policies and to consider their relevance in relation to health, risk and screening ethics

Outline Syllabus  

Cervical screening techniques and protocols.  Auditing and managing a service.  Anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive tract.  Pathologies associated with cervical screening.  Risk factors including sexually transmitted infections, in particular (HPV) Health promotion and lifestyles.  Care of women undergoing screening/compliance and non-compliance.  Social  implications of screening, political interventions and impact of bad publicity.  Current research findings and application to the clinical context.  Psychological factors associated with misdiagnosis or referral for further investigation. Undertaking an audit of practice and compiling a report.
