Module Aims

The module aims to demonstrate an understanding of advanced quantitative and qualitative design and measurement. Advanced quantitative analyses will cover multivariate analyses (e.g. ANCOVA, regression analyses and psychometrics). Advanced qualitative research methods will cover philosophical and theoretical issues in qualitative research including the grounding of research design at an epistemological and ontological level. Advanced qualitative analyses will cover grounded theory and constant comparative analysis, phenomenology and interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) and discourse and Foucauldian or Interpretive Critical Discourse analysis.

Outline Syllabus

On this module you will engage with complex quantitative research designs involving more than one independent variable. Univariate and multivariate methods will be used to analyse data using appropriate statistical software. Issues of ethics & quality will inform decisions about advanced qualitative and quantitative research design and application grounded at a philosophical and practical level. You will learn to select and critically apply an appropriate theoretical perspective, methodology and methods to address different research aims and settings (e.g. health and forensic). Experience will be gained the use of advanced qualitative data analysis including; grounded theory, IPA and Discursive analysis.
