Thinking Psychologically at Bradford

Module Aims

This module builds a portfolio of skills which are transferable across your degree and beyond whilst introducing you to the Division of Psychology at Bradford, including the academic staff and their research.
 
In the skills based elements of this module you will be introduced to practical approaches and theories relevant to the psychology of learning.  The module develops skills which are relevant to studying psychology and to employability such as creating action plans, a CV, team working, critically evaluating theories and debating topics in group settings.  You will learn about how to avoid plagiarism and the importance of referencing.  Personal development planning will allow you to continuously reflect and record your achievements.

Interwoven with these key elements will be an introduction to the Psychology team and their research areas and interests.  This will allow you to become more informed about the Bradford experience and what makes Psychology at Bradford unique.  You will also learn about the different schools of thought and research paradigms present within the broader research taking place within the Division.

Outline Syllabus

-  Learning theories, approaches, practical applications and implications relevant to the Psychology of learning.
-  Appreciate individual differences in learning strategies.
-  Employability, career development and personal development planning.
-  Understanding the role of the British Psychological Society in terms of Psychology career development and future goals for careers.
-  Creating action plans to manage time effectively.
-  Developing and updating a CV.
-  Using personal reflection to identify personal strengths and areas for improvement.
-  Using internet resources including literature databases to seek out and apply relevant literature.
-  Navigating successfully though the University of Bradford virtual learning environment and applications.
-  Personal Development planning - keeping a record of achievements and linking this with personal reflection.
- Understanding the importance of research in terms of knowledge generation and learning.
