To enable students to consolidate and extend their knowledge and understanding of ophthalmic instruments and techniques for the detection of common ocular abnormalities and pathology.
Direct Ophthalmoscopy; Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscopy; Contact Tonometry (eg Goldmann & Perkins); gonioscopy; clinical tests of colour vision, contrast sensitivity & glare testing; advances in ocular imaging technology; ocular ultrasound; visual electrophysiology; interpretation of visual field data; introduction to common visual and ocular abnormalities (wet & dry eyes, differential diagnosis of the red eye, uveitis, cataract, optic nerve head & primary open angle glaucoma, maculopathies, vascular & diabetic retinopathies, peripheral retinal abnormalities, retinal detachment).
