Lectures:
Semester 1: Introduction and refraction review, Binocular balancing 1, Binocular balancing 2, Case History, Case History, Differential diagnosis – vision blur, Differential diagnosis – diplopia, Differential diagnosis – headache, Near VA & Presbyopia 1, Near VA & Presbyopia 2, Near refraction, Examining the elderly patient.
Semester 2: Introduction, Recording 1, Recording 2, Communication skills 1, Communication skills 2, Communication skills 3, Thinking about refractive error correction (plus the duochrome test), Patient information leaflets and websites, Summarising diagnoses, prognoses and management plans, Referral letters, Prescribing 1, Prescribing 2
Practical Clinical Sessions:
Semester 1: Retinoscopy (2 weeks). Subjective refraction (2 weeks). Binocular balancing (2 weeks). Clinical assessments (1 week). Case history taking (2 weeks). Preparation for clinical assessments. Clinical assessments.
Semester 2: Retinoscopy (2 weeks), Eye Clinic, Case history, Case history video self-assessment sheet, Eye Clinic, Monocular subjective refraction (2 weeks), Eye Clinic, Diagnoses & management, discussions/Referral letter (2 weeks), Eye Clinic.
