Module Aims

To enable students to develop knowledge and skills in the examination, assessment intervention for patients with cardiac disease and abnormality.  To propose or initiate appropriate intervention or referral.

Outline Syllabus

Keynote lectures on systematic anatomy and related physiology with specific emphasis on the electro-physiology of the cardio-thoracic system. 
Pathophysiology. 
Ischaemic heart disease in acute practice. 
Indications, theory and practice of ECG examination.
Indications, theory and practice of cardiac pacing, 12 lead ECG and rhythm strips.
Interpretation of normality, interpretation and differential diagnosis of abnormality.
Recognitiation treatment and appropriate referral in cardiac practice.
Rehabilitation and health promotion in ischaemic heart disease and heart failure.
Ethical, legal and professional aspects of extended roles.
Clinical governance and clinical effectiveness.
Critical reading skills.
Current trends and drivers of current evidence based cardiology practice.
