Module Aims       

To enhance students knowledge the physical health needs of their client group.  To enable students to gain a awareness of their role in the treatment and management of common physical health conditions.  To advance good practice in physical health care within their field of practice.

Outline Syllabus   

Public perception of people with mental health and learning disability needs.Legal policy and ethical aspects - consent and mental capacity.Assessment of physical health needs, common assessment tools and models.Principles of health education and health promotion.Management of physical health needs.Consultation, decision making and therapy including referral.The prescribing agenda.Clinical pharmacology including the effects of co-morbidity.Networking and referrals.Evidence based practice and clinical governance.Professional accountability and responsibility.Leading and developing services.Making recommendations for practice development.
