To develop knowledge and skills relating to the prevention and management of pressure ulcers that can be applied to own specialist area of practice.

Anatomy and physiology of the skin and underlying tissues. Pathophysiology of skin damage and healing.Epidemiology.Prevalence and incidence of pressure ulceration. National and European pressure ulcer guidelines. Legal implications. Risk factors. Principles of risk assessment - assessment and classification tools, reliability and validity. Definition and classification of pressure ulcers. Cost implications. Change management. Cost effectiveness. Economics.Introduction to business case development. Interventions to limit pressure damage - use of support services and pressure prevention products.
