Module Aims       

To enable managers to:
Gain knowledge and understanding of a range of methods appropriate to undertaking a management project;
Undertake an in-depth management project addressing a management problem or opportunity;
To produce managers who can use evidence based approach to address management problems and opportunities.

Outline Syllabus   

This is an independent project with a taught component in the beginning. Following the taught component each student will be allocated a project supervisor who offers support and guidance. Students will negotiate a project topic which focuses on a work based problem or opportunity relevant to the student`s area. This will be carried out and written up by the student for submission and assessment.

Syllabus for taught component:
Introduction to undertaking a management project;
establishing a management opportunity or problem;
Undertaking project research in different organisational settings;
Linking the research process/management process theory;
Approaches and management models;
Developing aims and objectives;
Selection of appropriate research and management theory;
Different approaches to undertaking a management project;
Design, data collection and data analysis in the management project;
Ethics - processes and products; Practical skills of managing a project;
Interpretation and application of findings to management theory and practice;
Applying evidence based approaches to dealing with management problems/opportunities;
Developing a brief management project proposal.
