Module Aims

The module aims to critically analyse the role of finance in economic development. It aims to develop an understanding of the links between theories of finance and the problems of financing economic development and also assesses policy problems relating to the financial sector especially in the developing countries.

Outline Syllabus

Role of financial intermediation in development; structure of financial systems, differences between market based and bank based financial systems and differences between developing and developed countries financial structure, public and private banks, IS-LM Model, monetary policy, financial repression, financial liberalisation, microfinance, financial inclusion including digital finance, foreign investment, foreign aid, financial crises and capital flows and financial regulation.
