Destination: Pharmaceutical company, Cambridge
I started studying Chemistry for Medicines Development at Bradford in 2011 and I can say that I really enjoyed the course.
Even though I found it challenging, it was a great learning curve as every day, lecture, and laboratory session was different. I expanded my chemistry knowledge both theoretically and practically. This really suited me as I prefer a ‘hands-on’ approach which enables me to learn, carry out and review. In my fourth and final masters year I carried out a placement in a laboratory in Kent. This involved working full time and studying academic modules over the year. This was a real challenge but a fantastic transition preparing me for the real world.
Today, I am working for a leading pharmaceutical company in Cambridge preparing and analysing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) whilst also focusing on drug stability. Walking into a job before I even graduated was a great feeling!
Bradford as a city is what you make of it; I can happily say that I had the best four years of my life there. I made some incredible friends both at university and on placement, and now hold some crazy and phenomenal memories. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the support of my family for helping me get where I am today.
