Why did you choose to study Human Resource Management at the University of Bradford?

"As a mature student with a family wanting to study Human Resource Management, I chose the University of Bradford because it allowed me to study near to home and provided me with a good balance between study and family commitments.

"The University of Bradford stood out because the School of Management holds the 'triple-crown' accreditation and the course is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which gave me reassurance that the University would provide me with good academic and professional standards of teaching.

"I chose Human Resource Management because I wanted a course that would provide me opportunities to learn the skills that would equip me to work within a modern business environment.

"It appealed to me because it provides a recognised qualification which opens up future career opportunities within people management."

Have you undertaken any placements during your time at the University?

"During my second year, I applied to study abroad through the Entrepreneurs Across Borders programme.

"This gave me the opportunity to study at Ahlia University in Bahrain. The study trip enabled me to expand my academic horizons, enhance my cultural awareness and develop my entrepreneurial skills.

"It was a valuable opportunity provided by the University which has overwhelmingly reinforced my enthusiasm for my studies."

Initially, my goal was to start a career in human resource management. However, I have now developed a passion for study and I'm considering doing a Master’s degree once I graduate.

How do you feel the course will help you achieve your goals?

"Whilst participating on the course, the University has provided the support and facilities to improve my study skills and build my confidence within the academic environment.

"However, I equally feel that the course has improved my employability skills by providing me with opportunities through mock interviews and assessment centres. Therefore, I feel that the course is equipping me to achieve any goal I wish once I graduate."

My favourite thing about studying at Bradford is meeting and studying with people from so many different cultures. I enjoy working with students from all over the world and Bradford has provided me with this fantastic opportunity.

If you could go back and give your first-year self one piece of advice, what would it be?

"To believe in yourself and trust that you have the academic ability after years away from studying to achieve the results that you want.

"I'd also say not to worry about exams too. Attending lectures, tutorials and quality revision will equip you with everything you need to get good results."

"I have made good use of the Career Booster weeks. They have given me valuable opportunities to improve my academic and business skills."

What one bit of advice would you give to students who are thinking about studying Human Resource Management?

"The advice that I would give to anyone thinking about studying Human Resource Management is that now is the ideal time for you to study a subject involving people management.

"Due to Covid-19, there has never been a greater need in business for individuals to work within an environment where policies, procedures and practices are at the forefront of helping organisations to recover and develop in the forthcoming years.

"Studying Human Resource Management will enable you to be part of the solution for so many organisations which need quality human resource managers."
