Funding postgraduate study has never been easier

There has never been a better time to study a postgraduate degree. Not only because of the career and salary benefits, but because funding has never been more accessible.

Government research shows that undertaking a postgraduate degree is a major investment in your future: the average salary for someone with a postgraduate qualification in England is £42,000 – compared to £34,000 for graduates and £25,000 for non-graduates (Department of Education, 2019).

Postgraduate degrees offer specialist training and knowledge in a specific area, enabling you to progress in your current career path or change direction. You can improve your overall employment prospects by gaining chartership in certain fields, and often these qualifications are recognised worldwide.

There’s no reason to turn down a postgraduate degree, especially when you consider the long-term benefits and the funding options available, ranging from postgraduate loans to scholarships.

Here’s everything you need to know about funding a postgraduate degree.

Postgraduate Master’s Loan

A Master’s Loan can help with course fees and living costs while you study a postgraduate Master’s course.

The loan is paid directly to you. You can use it for your course fees and living costs. You can get up to £11,570 for your whole course.

If you’re studying for two, three or four academic years, the loan will be divided equally across each year. Your course can be taught or research-based.

You have to repay your Postgraduate Master’s Loan at the same time as any other student loans you have. The earliest you need to start repaying is when your monthly income is over £1,750.
