Professor Peter Mitchell

Professor Mitchell was appointed Head of School for Social Sciences in 2019.
He has previously held posts at McGill University, Canada, Oxford, Warwick and was Founding Head of Psychology at Nottingham’s campus in Malaysia, from 2009 to 2012.
He served as editor-in-chief of the British Psychological Society’s flagship journal, the British Journal of Psychology, from 2007 to 2012 and is currently chair of the developmental section of the BPS.
He has won nine Economic and Social Research Council grants and has authored a first-year undergraduate textbook, Fundamentals of Developmental Psychology.
Professor Mitchell led a project on how to encourage students to utilise mobile devices to optimise their learning.
