Associate Professor Biomedical Science

Expertise: Cardiovascular health, Type 2 diabetes

Dr Riches-Suman’s main area of focus is cardiovascular health, especially heart disease and diabetes. She is interested in the link between Type 2 diabetes and the risk of heart attack and stroke and the treatment of those conditions in people with Type 2 diabetes.
Dr Riches-Suman’s work also looks at the premature ageing of blood vessels in people with Type 2 diabetes and is working with PhD students on developing diagnostic tests that GPs and clinics could use in surgeries to test the age of a patient’s blood vessels. Alongside this, she also looks at the effect diabetes has on the skin and how people heal from injury.
Another area of interest is the mental health of postgraduates and how this can be improved.
Dr Riches-Suman has previously discussed skin colour on a children’s CITV programme, IRL For Team Charlene, which was awarded a Royal Television Society Award in 2021 for inclusivity.
