Teacher of the year award for University of Bradford academic
Dr Sobia Kauser from the University of Bradford has been named Higher Education Bioscience Teacher of the Year 2025.
Dr Kauser also led the Times Higher Education Award in 2024 for developing a system called 'Managing Risks Assessment for Impaired Laboratory Users' (MaRiLU®) that makes it easier for disabled students to access scientific laboratories.
Commenting on her most recent award, Dr Kauser said: “To win this prestigious award is a great honour and incredibly humbling. I am so glad I plucked up the courage to apply. It is wonderful to get national recognition on what I am passionate about. Winning the HE Bioscience Teacher of the Year has to be one of my proudest moments.”
Who is Dr Sobia Kauser?
Dr Kauser is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Science and holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Bradford. Her research focuses on pigmentation biology with particular interest in the hair follicle as well as pigmentation inequalities in health care. Her teaching and departmental responsibilities include: Chair of School of Chemistry and Biosciences Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, LSP champion, Temporary Teaching Contracts Manager and module leader for year 2 Pathology.
About the award
Among the criteria for the award is the requirement that candidates “exhibit innovation in relation to teaching that has proven to improve teaching practices and enhance student learning.”
Dr Kauser’s winning case study focused on increasing accessibility in the laboratory environment while teaching the biosciences.
