University of Bradford is launching its very own Entrepreneurship Festival to encourage creativity, innovation and resilience.

The festival is backed by sponsors Rolls Royce and NatWest, and will provide a week of hands-on, interactive events and activities.

Prof Zahir Irani, our Deputy Vice Chancellor, who chaired the Bradford District Post-Pandemic Economic Recovery plan 2021-26, said: "Bradford needs graduates who are innovative and entrepreneurial to transform the district and to create conditions in which our businesses can become more competitive, and we can tackle inequalities through inclusion and diversity."

Professor and Associate Dean Vishanth Weerakoddy said: “The festival will give students a greater appreciation and understanding of the skills and capabilities needed to those budding entrepreneurs who want to start up their own business and essential skills of creativity, innovation and resilience needed for those who want to succeed in the corporate world as intrapreneurs.”

The festival is open to all University of Bradford students from whatever faculty and whatever course.

Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Champion Associate Professor David Spicer, from the Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences, said: "Our inaugural entrepreneurship and innovation festival is a great opportunity for students to learn more about what it takes to start and run their own business. Students will be working in experiential and hands-on activities to learn and practice skills and capabilities associated with e/intrapreneurs. We are extremely pleased to have a great line-up of entrepreneurs and business leaders who will be working with our students."

The festival aims to explore the challenges of setting up a new organisation. The programme includes opportunities to consider what makes an effective business, social enterprise, charity or any other sort of organisation. Participants will also be able to experience running a start-up as part of a simulation with fellow budding entrepreneurs.

Participants in the festival are expected to attend for the four full days of the programme and will receive an Entrepreneurship Festival HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) award if they do.
