Initiative to help anyone recently made redundant in UK gain new skills or change career

Postgraduate course costs at the University of Bradford have been cut by a fifth for anyone made redundant in the UK since April 1.

The move is aimed at helping those who have found themselves out of work and either wish to reskill or change careers.

Postgraduate Master's degree costs will be reduced by 20 per cent for anyone affected by redundancy during the pandemic.

The university has over 200 courses to choose from, including Applied AI & Data Analytics, Forensic Archaeology & Crime Scene Investigation, Big Data Science & Technology, Cyber Security, Cancer Pharmacology, Advanced Dementia Studies and Smart Grids & Energy Systems.

Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Bradford Professor Zahir Irani said: “This is a difficult time for many people, not least those who have recently been made redundant. This scheme, open to anyone in the UK, has been designed to help that group re-enter education and re-skill themselves at a time when the jobs market is in flux. We understand times are hard but there are also opportunities.

“This could be the chance to take a new direction in life or fulfil long held ambitions. Postgraduate qualifications enable you to develop advanced skills and gain knowledge and experience. They help you stand out from the crowd.”

He added: “Last year, we signed the Civic University pledge, which means part of our long term strategic aims include benefiting the wider community and economy. This scheme does just that, offering world-class teaching at a substantial discount.”

Prof Irani, who is also Chair of the Economic Recovery Board for the Bradford Metropolitan District Council, said in many cases no background knowledge was required, meaning candidates could opt for a slight or complete career change. Some courses run part-time, allowing for a degree of flexibility

In addition, Government-funded postgraduate loans of up to £11,222 are available to help cover the cost of course fees and living costs, meaning students don't need to pay up front.

Many of our postgraduate courses include professional accreditations, which give students a boost in starting careers in their chosen areas.

The University offers over 200 postgraduate options, all designed to enhance your career prospects. You apply for a full or part-time Master’s degree (with the exception of MBA courses) at Bradford starting in the Autumn 2020 or January 2021.

Please note that students are only entitled to one discount or scholarship. If you are eligible for more than one award, you will be given the award of the highest value.
