IMechE president visit

The School of Engineering was honoured to host a visit by Carolyn Griffiths, the President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Carolyn is a rail industry expert and the founder and first leader of the UK Government Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB). She has worked in various types of organisations and roles within the UK and overseas, including operations, manufacturing, consultancy and regulatory work connected with industry's privatisation.

IMechE is the Institute of Mechanical Engineers which accredits our Mechanical Engineering degrees. The Institute was founded in 1847 and now boasts more than 120000 members across 140 countries.

Professor Martin Priest, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Informatics said, “We are delighted to be part of Carolyn’s presidential Northern visit, which also included Arconic Manufacturing in Low Moor and DePuy Synthes in Leeds. A particular thank you to Dr David Bryant for organising the visit and to the Vice Chancellor, colleagues and students in the Faculty who expertly and enthusiastically explained our activities and plans for the future to Carolyn.”
