Ghana Alumni Event 16 April 2018

The University hosted a successful networking reception for Bradford alumni and friends in Accra on Monday 16 April 2018. The event formed part of the University's delegation visit to West Africa, led by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Cantor CBE.

Professor Uduak Archibong MBE welcomed more than 50 alumni and guests to the reception at the Movenpick Hotel and introduced members of the University delegation which also included Professor Engobo Emeseh, Head of Law School; Dr Sheillah Chimungeni, Regional Manager for the Sub-Saharan Africa and America regions; Jonaid Khan, Alumni Manager; Zainab Garba-Sani, Academic Affairs Sabbatical Officer, and Cecilia Anim CBE, Honorary Doctor of Health and President of the Royal College of Nursing in the UK.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor talked about the University’s development as a world-leading technology university and highlighted the significant impact made by Bradford alumni worldwide including across Africa and in Ghana. Professor Cantor also talked about the many ways alumni could continue to support and contribute to the University’s future success.

Cecilia Anim, addressed her fellow nationals and emphasised some of the activities the delegation had led during the trip including a ‘Dementia and Stigma’ workshop for more than 100 student nurses at the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association. A number of ‘Dementia Champions’ were recruited from amongst those present at the event.

The University has more than 4,000 alumni across Africa with over 200 known to be based in Ghana. Mark Boateng, MA International Business and Management 2005, who has led the coordination of alumni activity in Ghana, presented the Vice-Chancellor with a Ghanaian smock. Mark also encouraged the alumni present to come together to form an active alumni community which could support the mobility, enterprise and employability of Braduates within Accra and other cities in Ghana.
