University of Bradford scoops Prospects Postgraduate Award for the Second Year Running

Held at the exquisite Midwestern Hotel in Manchester on Monday 10 November, over 120 guests attended the hotly anticipated awards ceremony, all with high hopes of taking home a prize.

Having received the ‘Highly Commended’ award at last year’s event, the Forensic Archaeology and Crime Scene Investigation Team were up for nomination again, following a number of nominations from current and former MSc Students.

Sarah Ashbridge, who nominated the team explains why she nominated Bradford for a second time: “My time at Bradford changed my life. This was not only due to the course content, but to the dedication of the teaching staff who recognized us for our individual talents and trained us to be the very best. Despite graduating a year ago, I still work closely with the team, who help me continuously despite no longer being a student. I can’t wait to be part of the team again when I return for my PhD.”

Unfortunately the FACSI team (made up of Rob Janaway, Dr Andrew Wilson, Andy Holland and Bobby Friel), was missing one significant member this year: John McIlwaine who passed away earlier this year. John was a key character in the development of the pioneering course, and an outstanding teacher.

Recognizing the contributions of both John and the rest of the team to the field of postgraduate education, the Bradford Team were awarded Prospects first ever Judges Commendation award. Mike Hill, Chief Executive of Prospects, spoke of the large volume of nominations that the team received, which made clear the positive impact that John had had upon the lives of his students. The award was also in recognition of the high quality of the degree content and the support which the students felt they had received from all members of staff.
