Celebration of the 9th Annual Rosa Parks Symposium

The Centre for Inclusion and Diversity, in collaboration with the Equality and Diversity Unit of the University of Bradford and Bradford Council, this week celebrates the life of Rosa Parks and reflects on the implications of her contributions to the race equality agenda.

On Friday 13 December, 9.00am – 4.30pm, Richmond Building, University of Bradford will host the 9th Annual Rosa Parks Symposium and examine Continuing the Dream: "Transformation into an Oasis of Freedom and Justice."

It has been 50 years since the iconic speech ‘I Have a Dream’ by civil rights activist and equality champion Martin Luther King Junior and children aged 11 to 14 from Tong High School, Bradford, will be present at the event sharing their personal thoughts and poems, inspired by the speech. Pupils from Belle Vue Girls School, Bradford, will also be participating.   

Director of the Centre for Inclusion and Diversity and Professor of Diversity at the University of Bradford, Professor Udy Archibong, said; “This year's Rosa Parks Symposium will commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr iconic speech’s 50th anniversary and seeks to provide a platform for exploring the achievements thus far, and discuss emerging themes on equality, diversity, and inclusion in the UK and across the world. The event will also allow the delegates the space to debate how individuals find the courage to make changes in the world.”
