31 May 12

The University of Bradford has been placed within the world's top 100 best young universities in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 league table released today.

The position also places them 20th out of 94 UK Universities which are under the age of 50 worldwide.  The University was ranked by its performance across 13 indicators including teaching, research and knowledge transfer.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, Professor Mark Cleary, said: "The University of Bradford has a strong international reputation at its heart and it is pleasing to see this recognised in this league table.

"We have placed a lot of emphasis and importance on our standards of teaching and graduate employment as well as undertaking international research.  As we plan for our 50th anniversary in 2016, these key areas of will continue to be at the core of our institution."

Phil Baty, the editor of Times Higher Education Rankings, said: “The innovative Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 is not about the old institutions that dominate the traditional rankings: it is about a new breed of global universities – those that have managed to join the world’s top table in just decades rather than centuries, and others showing great promise for the future.

"The new ranking gives us a glimpse of the future, hinting at who the future Harvard and Cambridge universities may be."

The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 complements the annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which are published in the autumn, and the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, which are published in March. The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 lists the world’s best 100 universities under the age of 50 years.
