Radio 1 Extra DJ Zane Lowe to headline University of Bradford Freshers' Ball

19 August 11

University of Bradford students are due to kick off Freshers' week with a bang this year as internationally renowned Radio 1 and Radio 1 Extra DJ Zane Lowe confirmed he would be the headline act for the Monster Freshers' Ball.

On 19 September Lowe will spin the decks, bringing his honed sound to the ears of new and current students as feature act of the formal evening event. His work has seen him cross over from television presenter to radio DJ, and he has won numerous awards, including the NME awards for Best Radio Show and Sony Radio Academy Gold Award in The Specialist Music Programme and Music Broadcaster of the Year categories.

The Monster Freshers' Ball line-up will also feature a support act handpicked by Zane Lowe, and top student DJs from the University's student owned and run radio station, RamAir. Students who have purchased VIP freshers' wristbands for the week's events can get into the ball for free, and are in with a chance of meeting Zane Lowe in person after his set.

In previous years University of Bradford students have had the chance to see chart topping acts such as Chase and Status (2010) and Tinie Tempah (2009) headline at previous student union events. The University has played host to many high profile acts over the years, as Nirvana, the Stereophonics and U2 performed on campus in the 1990s, and Pink Floyd entertained students in the 1970s.

Rachelle Hunt, Media and Entertainments Officer for University of Bradford Union of Students said:

"Once again Bradford offers its students an event that puts it on the map with Zane Lowe coming to the University. Current students are excited to come back for a new term with 'The Zipper' appearing, and new students will have a fantastic event to kick off their time here."
