'Good care counts' as former nurse swoops top award

A University of Bradford member of staff has been working extensively with private companies and government departments to improve care of people with Dementia.

And last night, Paul Edwards from the Bradford Dementia Group, was recognised for his exceptional achievements at the University's annual Excellence in Knowledge Transfer Awards.  He won the most prestigious award the 'Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Knowledge Transfer Award'.

Paul Edwards from the Bradford Dementia Group was awarded for putting Bradford on the map by maintaining and developing an excellent reputation in Dementia Care.

The awards also gave prizes in four other categories:

  • The Business Innovation Award - recognised Professor Raed Abd Alhameed for his Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Pace Plc, a project to design, develop and implement multiple antenna systems.
  • The Tom Ashdown Award - marked the success of the University's Think Business@Bradford and Amazeyourself@Bradford business support programmes.  Awards went to Richard Serrant from Serrant Sport based at the University and to Robert Ives from CabTure.  Richard Serrant, a graduate from the University, is currently putting finishing touches to his second generation prototype micro car and preparing to pitch to investors. Robert Ives set up CabTure; a new Bradford based enterprise that uses taxis to advertise local businesses using digital technology that incorporates video security.
  • Interdisciplinary Working Award - awarded Science Bridges China - an international collaboration of two University schools (Life Sciences and Engineering, Design, Technology) who are working with China to develop knowledge transfer, training and assistance with commercial healthcare-related products.
  • Community Partnership Award - was presented to Chris Wilson in UCAN, the volunteering centre in the Student's Union for his Cycle re Cycle project, which recycles old and unusable bikes to 'as good as new' standard and sells to students and staff at an affordable price.

Guest speaker, Chairman and founder of BTL Group Ltd and Virtual College Group plc, Bob Gomersal announced the winners at the prestigious dinner at the University's City Campus.
