Bhutto family member Fatima Bhutto to give lecture at University of Bradford

29 September 10

Fatima Bhutto, granddaughter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and niece of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, will give a lecture at the University of Bradford on Wednesday, 13 October, 2010.

The University’s School of Lifelong Education and Development will host the talk entitled 'Fatima Bhutto - Songs of Blood and Sword'  as part of the 'Faith and the City' programme, which has been developed by the School of Lifelong Education and Development in partnership with the Bradford District Faiths Forum.

At the lecture Fatima will talk about her recent book, Songs of Blood and Sword, published by Jonathan Cape, April 2010.

Fatima is an Afghan born Pakistani poet and writer. She studied at Columbia University, and at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Her work has appeared in the Daily Beast, New Statesman, the Guardian and other publications.  Whilst she comes from a powerful political family, Fatima has remained active in her work as poet and writer rather than following the footsteps of her family.

Dean of the School of Lifelong Education and Development at the University of Bradford, Nadira Mirza, said: "This is a rare opportunity to meet and hear from an internally renowned journalist and writer. The added bonus for the University is her political heritage connected to Bhutto dynasty and her political insights into the social, economic and political issues facing Pakistan, South Asia and the world at large.

"Students and staff of the University and our community partners will both enjoy and learn from this lecture with Ms Fatima Bhutto. Once again Faith and the City is proud and delighted to present an evening which promises debate, discourse and disagreement."

The discussion will be held at 6.00pm in the Horton Barn Lecture Theatre, Horton Building at the University. Tickets cost £5 per person, cash payment to be made on the night.
