Students hover together for design packed day
17 May 10
Over sixty students from West Yorkshire will design and build a fleet of hovercraft in just one day when they meet at Calder High School, in Mytholmroyd, this week on Wednesday 19 May.
The event, organised by the University of Bradford's School of Engineering, Design and Technology, will bring together students to design, build - and test - their own mini-hovercrafts from instructions given to them at the start of the day. The event will conclude with the 'Great Race'; when students race their hovercraft to test the performance of their designs.
The students, aged 15-18, taking part are studying at Calder High School, Rastrick College, St Catherine's Catholic High School and Calderdale College.
Event Organiser, Joanne Crowther from the School of Engineering, Design and Technology, said: "As usual we're really looking forward to this event. It always goes down well with students taking part and it's always very pleasing to see the students so enthusiastic about the challenge.
"We've organised this project for hundreds if not thousands of students up and down the UK over the last ten years but this will be the first time we've run the project in a theatre! We're very excited about this year's location as the technical abilities of a theatre will create a really good atmosphere to the Great Race".
