The University of Bradford has further strengthened its senior team by appointing Professor Geoff Layer as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) to work alongside the existing Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources).

Professor Layer's role will enhance the function of the University by bringing together into one senior post responsibility for direction and leadership for the full range of academic activity as it seeks to achieve excellence in research, learning and teaching and knowledge transfer. A key aspect of the role will be to develop the academic footprint of the University and to enhance the student experience as it seeks to grow and deliver excellence across its academic affairs.

Professor Layer came to the University in 1999 when he was appointed the position of Dean at the School of Lifelong Education and Development and became Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching in 2004.

Speaking about his appointment, Professor Layer said: "I am delighted to have been offered this challenging role as Bradford seeks to build on its recent successes and further establishes itself as a leading university providing educational opportunity locally, nationally and globally."
