Honorary graduations at the University of Bradford

The University of Bradford will be awarding honorary degrees during ceremonies on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December 2009 to the following people:

  • Mohammed Salam - Chief Executive of the 'Consortium of Ethnic Minority Organisations'
  • Noorzaman Rashid - Director of Board and Leadership Services at Harvey Nash Group PLC
  • Dick Mills - BBC Sound Engineer
  • Achhar Paul Dharni - Chairman of the Hindu Cultural Society
  • Ann Cryer - MP for Keighley

Honorary graduates will receive their awards during degree ceremonies taking place in the University's Great Hall. They will receive their awards from the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Cleary.
Professor Cleary said: "We look forward to welcoming this group of honorary graduates.

"It is with great pride that we have been given this opportunity to honour such an array of distinguished colleagues and their achievements are an impressive testament to their talents."


Mohammed Salam

Mohammed Salam will be awarded an honorary Doctor of the University for his distinguished services to the city and the people of Bradford, in particular in recognition of his long-standing commitment and dedication in the field of community relations and cohesion.

Noorzaman Rashid

Noorzaman Rashid will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for his strong track record of working with voluntary and community organisations within the not-for-profit sector, helping to raise funds and generate income. In addition, for his significant contributions at Board level on several local, national and international community groups and work as Director of a successful global professional services and IT recruitment business.

Dick Mills

Dick Mills will receive an honorary Doctor of Science for his significant contribution to British media culture through his pioneering efforts in electronic sound effects and radio broadcasting.  In addition, in recognition of his services as founder member and long-standing contributor to the BBC's Radiophonic Workshop, a sound effects unit created in 1958, and for his contributions to the School of Computing, Informatics and Media's Communication, Culture and Media Research Group.


Achhar Paul Dharni

Achhar Paul Dharni will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for his services to the local community and, in particular, for his contributions to community cohesion and harmony, for his work as Chairman of the Hindu Cultural Society of Bradford and as a founder member of the Bradford Asian Business Association.

Ann Cryer

Ann Cryer MP will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for her services to the community as a Member of Parliament for Keighley from 1991 to the present.
