Half price MBA preview from No. 1 in North of England

19 November 09

A preview of how businesses could benefit from half-price executive part-time MBA programmes, being offered to local business high-flyers, is being held at Bradford University School of Management on Wednesday, 9 December, 2009.

The MBA can help businesses to maintain management development during the current recession.  The scholarship was made possible earlier this year by using funds from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), which was matched by Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency.

Executive Part-Time MBAs are considered to have enormous benefits for companies and those who have completed the course have experienced immediate impact on the way that managers contributed to their organisation.

Bradford University School of Management is using part of a £700,000 pot of money secured from government funds to offer a 50% scholarship on its Executive part-time MBA programme to Yorkshire companies. The Executive Part-Time MBA programme has consistently maintained its ranking as the No. 1 in the North by the Financial Times 2009.

Julian Rawel, Director of Executive Education at Bradford University School of Management, said "We hope regional businesses will take up the opportunity to attend the preview evening to see how the MBA will help them.

"Recent difficult times have had an impact on companies' investment in such areas as management training and whilst interest in our MBA and Executive programmes remains relatively strong, we have had to push harder in some areas. Providing scholarship for the Executive part-time MBA programme enables firms that are looking for savings to maintain their commitment to management training."

A limited number of 50% scholarships are available for the course starting in January 2010, which will provide a saving of £7,750 on the usual fees. An 'MBA Preview' where you can find out more information will be held on Wednesday 9 December 2009 at Heaton Mount, Heaton, from 6pm-8.30pm.  For further details contact 01274 234415 visit www.bradford.ac.uk/mba or email management@bradford.ac.uk

Case Study
Employer Profile - Leeds based law firm have already benefited from the part-time MBA.

At 37, Graham Sweeney has worked professionally for 15 years, the last five as IT Manager for Leeds based law firm, Schofield Sweeney. Chris Schofield, Senior Partner commented:

"In Graham Sweeney we had a talented individual who has been with the company, in a variety of roles, for 10 years. He wanted to progress to a more senior general management role. We wanted to support this and felt that an MBA would give Graham the relevant skill set to make a greater contribution across the practice.

"We chose the Bradford MBA due to its first-class reputation, accessibility and its excellent course. The Executive part-time MBA was a perfect match due to its evening classes, flexible structure and the variety and breadth of modules offered.

"Graham undertaking the Bradford MBA was an investment in our organisation. We recognised that our effectiveness as an organisation is determined by the effectiveness of our managers, and appreciate the importance of retaining and developing valuable individuals.

"Graham has developed greatly in both a professional and personal capacity throughout his MBA journey. Whilst on the MBA, Graham has helped us develop a better management structure, has taken responsibility for a wider range of management issues and therefore has a wider set of options in terms of career progression within Schofield Sweeney."
