Cake, Jam, Bunting... Live Art, Dance, Music...

20 April 09

Experimental and innovative, Development Lab exist to create a platform for new work at the University of Bradfords' Theatre in the Mill. Following the opening 01:FESTIVAL at Theatre in the Mill last Autumn, their next event is of a more traditional nature at its heart.

Village Fete From midday to midnight on Saturday, 25 April 2009, 'Village Fete' is a marathon of free events from face-painting to electronica, cake stalls to caberet and encompassing all the bunting-clad, jam-touting fun of the fete in between.

Celebrated artists are programmed alongside local newcomers giving opportunity for local audiences to see a myriad of new work and for local artists to develop and share their wares.  Highlights include a new commission for Leeds' David Toole and South African choreographer Lucy Hind, 'Extra-Ordinary' which tops the bill, plus Mary Oliver's comedy double act `Wednesday Wednesday'.

Local theatre-maker Victoria Pratt's installation 'It Sank With the Shape of Us' was a hit at the Fierce Festival in Birmingham last year and has its first performances closer to home for Village Fete.  Bric a Brac productions' 'Richard's Love' combines shadow puppetry and masks to magical effect and everyone can enjoy silver service for their fete tea and cake courtesy of Chol's 'Not For All the Tea in China'. With spoken word from Joe Kriss and friends and music from David Thomas Broughton, Village Fete promises a programme packed full of treats.

No fete would be complete without cakes and jam, face-painting and bunting and this one will have it all in abundance plus craft stalls, family activities and a free barbecue.  So inside and out, all day long, Village Fete's non-stop programme is something the whole community can get involved with.
