Bradford School of Management launches career boosting part-time MSc for HR professionals

16 April 09

They are the professionals who ensure every employee gets the most from their job. Now human resource practitioners can fast-track their own careers with the launch of a prestigious new course.

The part-time MSc in Human Resource Management starts this September at Bradford University School of Management. It offers existing HR practitioners, or those who want to move into HR, the opportunity to undertake a career-boosting qualification while keeping up their work and family commitments.

Bradford University School of Management, one of Britain's leading business schools, already runs a highly-regarded full-time MSc in HRM. The part-time course will be just as academically rigorous, but offers greater flexibility.

At the end of the first year students can decide whether to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma after two years or continue into a third year of study to attain an MSc.

"Human resource professionals know better than anyone how important it is to develop new skills if you are to fulfil your potential," said Dr Carol Atkinson, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management.

"Our part-time course offers students a route to professional recognition as well as personal and career development, without disrupting their work.

"Anyone emerging with either the diploma or the MSc can be sure that they have put themselves in the fast lane for career development."

Both the diploma and the MSc lead to graduate membership of professional body the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Every student will also benefit from "Professional Performer" training tailored to their individual needs. This is a programme of practical skills development in areas like recruitment and training.

"I'm delighted to add my support to what is a truly innovative course," said Les Hall, Vice Chair of West Yorkshire CIPD. "It will enable  students to gain both a broad knowledge of the crucial and complex field of modern HR and an in-depth specialist understanding of the areas that most interest them."

To be eligible for the part-time MSc, students must have a first degree qualification of 2:2 or higher, not necessarily in business or management, making it ideal for those looking to make a career change.

The School will also consider students without a 2:2 if they have significant and relevant work experience. They also need to able to attend the School of Management every Tuesday afternoon and evening during the academic year.

Bradford University School of Management's post-graduate programmes are ranked by the Financial Times in the UK's top 10, top 20 in Europe and top 55 globally. Its executive part-time MBA is number one in the North.

The campus is a hidden gem. Set within 14 acres of conservation woodland and next to an award-winning public park, it contains both listed historical buildings and state-of-the-art new buildings.
