BUMS presents..

A Conversation with Gary Cavanagh: Bradford's Rock and Pop Scene, Then and Now.

Wednesday 28th January, 2pm - 4pm at Tasmin Little Music Centre, University of Bradford. FREE ENTRY. All Welcome. Author of the 'Bradford's Noise of The Valleys' book series and avid music fan Gary Cavanagh will join us for an informal discussion about Bradford's alternative music history and the live music scene today.

Gary was born in Clayton, Bradford, and is a founder member of Bradford’s 1 In 12 Club, a former university tutor in history and politics, and a local historian and archivist.

The conversation will be facilitated by Fellow in Music Andy Abbott and will provide plenty of opportunities for questions and chat about the musical landscape of Bradford then and now and how to get involved.

Solo project of Marco Bernacchia - hard touring future primitive blues guitar/synth boogie experimentalism.

Andy Abbott of Nope and TFT’s solo guitar, synths and electronics project exploring Eno/Fripp repetitions and kosmische vibes.

 Threadfest, Bradford’s acclaimed festival of independent music and art returns this May Spring Bank Holiday for a special ‘compact edition’. After three years of successfully joining up venues and organisations across the city, this time we’re bringing it all under one roof to give you a focused taste of what Bradford’s DIY, not-for-profit, independent and underground scenes have to offer.

Confirmed acts include Sun City Girls’ Sir Richard Bishop (USA), ATP recording’s Vision Fortune, bleak heaviness from the North East’s Drunk In Hell, avant-garde songsmith Richard Dawson, Yorkshire-born folk legend and Thurston Moore favourite Michael Chapman, Bradford’s psychedelic world-folk power trio The Family Elan, Italian free jazz devotionalists Jooklo Duo, The Quietus’ John DoranBradford Qawwali musicians, experimental techno from Leeds’ Chrononautz and lots more to be announced.

After a hugely successful Threadfest in 2015 that captured the attention and praise of The Guardian and The Wire, M@BU continue to develop our partnership with Bradford Playhouse and their emerging Burnel Rooms space so we can continue to put on ‘the best from the local scene as well as key figures from national and international experimental music culture’.

We have programmed a series of events over Summer and into the Autumn
