Avant-Buskers 2012

A series of pop-up performances and musical interventions on Bradford Uni Campus that coincide with Fresher's Fortnight 17th and 27th September.

It Came Out of Nowhere

Friday 28th September. The Polish Club, Edmund St. Doors at 8pm, £5

A night of home-grown and self-organised rock music from across the globe held as part of Bradford’s best and least-pretentious indie disco; ‘No Hands’ at The Polish Club. With The Bismarck, Poil, a.P.A.t.T, Dolphins.

Preceded by a screening of Grateful Lovers, Finding Punk on the Great Plains, a documentary about DIY rock music in the American Midwest , and a presentation from Gary Cavanagh, longstanding 1 in 12 Club member and author of Noise of the Valleys (a book that documents Bradford’s popular music history).

The Almost Well Tuned Piano

Monday 29th October at Delius Arts & Cultural Centre. Taking its name from experimental pianist and composer La Monte Young's 'Well Tuned Piano', this event aims to showcase inventive approaches to parameters and site.  With Matthew Bourne, Stephen Grew and Imani Hekima.


Saturday November 24th. 3pm - 9pm. Pop-up Space, Bradford City Centre. 

A durational event exploring group improvisation and site-responsiveness through music and performance with three sets by collaborations of artists and musicians: with Alchemy/Schmalchemy (Sheffield), Ithaca Trio (Leeds) and David Bell (Nottingham), Seth Bennett, Aby Vulliamy and George Murray (Bradford).

Folk Narratives

Saturday 8th December. Theatre in the Mill

Revisiting and developing last Winter's Folk Narratives event which saw musicians and groups performing in libraries across the city, this all-dayer at Theatre in the Mill will bring together more contemporary and unusual approaches to the 'traditional' form of folk music; demonstrating its continued relevance as a form for carrying, sharing and progressing everyday experience.

Performers include Bridie Jackson and The Arbour and Richard Dawson from Newcastle,The Mary Hampton Cotillion from Brighton and Bradford, Howie Reeve from Glasgow, The Sense of Adventure Tape Orchestra from Milton Keynes and Stephanie Hladowski from Bradford.
